I have always loved animals and their amazing ability to communicate with humans and each other. As a child, I loved to explore with my all-black pony, Cinders. She was my four-legged friend who got me from point A to point B. We went on many adventures in and out of water. Mom would get so mad when Cinders and I would come home soaking wet. This was mostly because she knew we’d been swimming in the river, and I hadn’t yet learned how to swim.

These outings were always accompanied with a healthy dose of imagination. Sometimes, we had to out-swim the river monster or climb the mountain in search of hidden treasure. Sometimes, I was the Indian girl, galloping bareback through the woods, jumping logs, and craning my neck to make sure the cowboys weren’t catching up. Sometimes, I was the cowgirl, chasing my uncle’s cows through the field, until the bull got mad and chased us. Being the daredevil that I was, I’m lucky to be alive!

Through all of this, I learned and observed a lot about animals. From the squirrels chattering in the trees to the coyotes howling at night, all things in nature gave me ideas for future stories. Eventually, I grew up, well, sort-of. I still like to play outside year-round. And the need to be creative and use my overactive imagination has remained strong.

When the idea for The Adventures of Smeagle the Beagle, came to me, I knew it was something I just had to write. How many crazy situations can one little dog get into? And, more importantly, how will he get out of them? My goal is to write books that are fun for children as well as adults. I hope you enjoy reading the books in this series as much as I enjoy writing them.

Thank you for stopping by, and happy reading!
